The Alchemy of Transformation
It seems inevitable for transformation to occur contraction precedes expansion, and yet nearly every time it happens we can feel a shred of panic. Maybe we are working diligently on our personal transformation, doing well in the world, allowing ourselves to follow our dreams, and yet ponder why we are still experiencing restrictions of all kinds-financial, emotional, physical. Perhaps we feel a little loss in our transformation, likened to being in a dark room with no windows. Confusion, doubt and self-defeatism seem to awaken our inner-critic’s voice, telling us we are not really making progress. This proven timeless recipe for transformation remains the same, darkness before the dawn aka constriction before expansion, yet we are constantly trying to tweak the recipe. Why? Because we FEEL there has to be an easier way, a milder way, a ‘spiritually’ sounder way. These feelings in themselves are what cause more pain. Expecting something different, and resisting the process prolongs the ultimate transformation.
It’s easy to panic or want to act in some way to eliminate the feeling of constriction when things feel difficult. Our inner critic seems to thrive during these times, causing us to spin our wheels mentally to understand why things are the way they are, and why they are happening to us. Our inner critic feels scared and vulnerable during these moments of transformation, and it is our job to assure and nurture our inner critic through a number of processes, one of which is self-care. There are moments during these ‘non-moving’ time periods of transformation when we are being allowed ‘downtime’ to relax and re-coupe before the next big expansion. This period of time, however, feels uncomfortable because we feel we must be doing something ALL the time throughout this transformation. For if we don’t, then we
feel we are doing something wrong or worse, failing.
Understanding that as we are processing the shift from one stage to another, and do so from a place of surrender to the experience, the more quickly we will move through the tightness into the opening on the other side. Imagine if a baby making its way down the birth canal chose to remain stuck in the canal because it felt too difficult to go on, it would cause great hardship on both the baby and the mother. Thankfully, intuitively, both mother and child know birthing a new reality brings great expansion and growth, and they find strength to carry on through the process.
The key element to successfully getting through the contraction phase of transformation is the following recipe - ALLOWANCE, SELF-CARE, and SUPPORT. When choosing support ensure it is for the betterment of your transformation as opposed to mere agreeance to make you feel better. Self-care is for making you feel better; support is for encouragement and guidance.
The benefits of transformation are freedom, growth, and transcendence.
